Baby did young Nicole Rockhill know that the name she would sign to her drawings would one day be applied to another set of masterpieces — lines of children’s and women’s clothing, household treasures, and a “artistic space” where sewing magic happens.
All are housed in her yellow-sided department store at The Shops of Grayton, with Nicole Paloma- A Creative Space tucked in the back at 26 Logan Lane in Shanty E.
Here, bolts of fabric line a bookshelf, thread is displayed on the brink of-to-use, and little handmade treasures dot the space.
“I didn’t want it to have the impression like a store,” said Rockhill. “There are things for mark-down,” but the intention was for it to feel more like a hang-out where creative minds could go together to express ideas.
“(Nicole) lets people become public in and take part in it. That’s the same with the sewing classes. The shop’s a little bit of theirs,” said Michelle Uhlfelder, natural of two, lifelong stitcher, and Creative Space director and teacher.
