The 2011-12 Big Ten Symposium men's basketball season should
have a warning label attached:
Proceed at your own chance. Moments of exhilaration may be
followed by heartache — or the other way around.
"That (phrase), ‘Beating up on each other,' in actuality has a meaning
this year, I think," University of Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said
Monday. "And this is decent the beginning. I don't know what the next
two-thirds of the season or so will bring in the Big Ten. But if
this is any indication, pat on to your hats."
Three weeks into the season, the Big Ten standings already are a
mess. There are no unbeatens remaining, and all but two teams —
Illinois and Michigan Express — have at least two losses.
Five teams are ranked in the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN
coaches' Top 25 polls, and two others — UW and Northwestern —
received votes. The Badgers (14-5, 3-3 Big Ten) compere the Wildcats
(12-5, 2-3) on Wednesday night.
Northwestern has never won at the Kohl Center, which would seem
to tip the scales in UW's favor — except the Badgers already have
past twice at home in league play this season and were pushed to
the limit by last-mission Nebraska on Sunday in Madison. UW never
trailed, but its 50-45 victory over the Cornhuskers was a
struggling.
