Rebecca Carroll plans to dissipate her retirement sewing, picking out fabric and playing with colored threads.
But she won't a moment ago be making her two grandchildren costumes or designing Victorian-inspired outfits, which is her passion.
The 58-year-old will be serving customers choose patterns and the perfect fabrics to complete their favorite projects.
She, with the assistants of husband, Terry, 60, opened Olde Time Make-up Shop in Bearden's Western Plaza Shopping Center last month.
It's her retirement design.
"My husband and I were looking at starting a business in retirement," Carroll said. "We scarcely don't feel we are ready to retire. I needed a better job. I hope I'm creating one."
Carroll has all in the past eight years as an adjunct English professor at Pellissippi Constitution Technical Community College as well as Tennessee Tech University. She said the protracted days, long drives and randomness of her semester schedule were wearing on her.
The trained author published a fiction book in 2008 called "Milk Window Moon.
