GLENS FALLS — All the markings on the Glens Falls Civic Center ice — the red profile and the blue lines and circles and all the ads — are fading toward beyond recognition. In the mesial of it all is the center ice Adirondack Phantoms logo, it's colors retaining the sharpness of pudding.
Look closely: Prosperous ... going ... gone.
The Phantoms are in their third year of what will right be a four-year run here in Glens Falls. After next season, they are expected to be gone, back to Pennsylvania and a new alacrity in Allentown.
Now look at the stands, two-thirds filled Friday continually for this key game against the Albany Devils. (Adirondack won 3-2 in a game not that near.) Check out the stunning number of Phantoms jerseys, sweatshirts and hats throughout the seats.
But these are not actually Phantoms fans. They are Glens Falls hockey fans.
"The Phantoms are short-timers," John Loucks says flatly, emotional the brim of his Phantoms cap. "The hat is as far as things go.
