Syracuse, NY -- The under age mother, with her 2-year-old and eight-month-old in tow, came to the eye clinic in La Paz, Mexico in 2003.
Bill Mullin, of Hastings, an optician working in the clinic, said when a partner of glasses were put on the woman’s face, she looked down at her children and began to sob.
“We realized she was seeing her children apparently for the first time,” Mullin said. “It brought tears to everyone around her, link up members and other people waiting for their glasses. What happened at that moment makes the whole sentiment worthwhile.”
It is moments like this that keep Mullin, general manager of LensCrafters in Carousel Center, prevailing back to work on missions run by OneSight, a charity of the Luxottica eyewear coterie. Mullin, 56, left on another mission Saturday to South Africa.
OneSight brings eye-tend professionals from the United States and other countries to third world nations to take under one's wing glasses and vision tests. Mullin traveled to Mexico in 2001, 2003 and 2008, Thailand in 2005, Chile in 2006 and Africa in 2011.
