Polk County, FL -- Friday, Jan. 13 was an consequential day for the Polk County Sheriff's Office SWAT team as it welcomed its first female colleague.
Sheriff Grady Judd presented 28-year-old Shanon Demarest, along with 10 men, certificates of finalization of the rigorous PCSO SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) training teach.
Demarest was one of 20 applicants that included deputies, other mechanism law enforcement officers and paramedics from throughout the county. Of the 20, 15 attempted to obsolescent the course.

Demarest was hired in July 2010 and assigned to the Southeast Community patrol. She has been heavily involved in sports since the age of five in soccer, misplace and gymnastics.
The SWAT class consists of three phases that include physical qualifications, classroom teaching, tactical training, weapons qualifications, the tenseness course and the obstacle course.
