JENSEN Ground – In his first taste of the county's backyard rivalry, Martin County sophomore Trey Graham played as though he had been there before.
Graham was the key defender in executing Martin County's match plan to contain Jensen Beach standout Alex Thompson. Graham was a attainment and so were the Tigers in earning a 71-53 win at Jensen Beach.
"He did a great job defensively and was a big part of why we won tonight," Martin County mentor John Leon said. "Thompson was our focus all week. He's a preseason all-pomp player. We used that all week as motivation. We did enough to win."
The Tigers, led by Graham who didn't Rather commence as the main defender in the box-and-one defense on Thompson but played most of the game there, held Thompson to 15 points, 10 points below his ordinarily.
"I was just trying to deny," Graham said. "If he touches the ball, he's a threatening player."
Emotions were high on both benches much of the night, and it showed in the passionate and sometimes physical play by both teams. Martin County got into foul outbreak early, but its defense — from full court to around the basket — was always the characteristic as the Tigers won their 15th straight game.
