SLIP, slop, fling and slide. It’s an iconic summer message in Australia, and more children could pronto be be sliding on a pair of sunglasses as part of their school uniforms to increase sun protection.
Teach clothing supplier Stubbies surveyed 983 parents and found that while 84 per cent assume ultraviolet rays are as harmful on eyes as on skin, only 7 per cent buy sunglasses as part of their issue’s uniform.
Abbey Gordon, in Year 5 at Werrington County Primeval, said she would wear sunglasses to school even though they might get in the way while she plays lunch time football and netball.
